Associated Press - July 11, 2009 5:15 PM ET

HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) - Authorities say a 23-year-old Hastings woman is dead after she was thrown from an all-terrain vehicle.

Adams County Sheriff Gregg Magee says Kelly M. Gilbert was driving an ATV on a private road southwest of Juniata when she struck a ditch and was ejected into trees.

Magee says Gilbert suffered head trauma. She was not wearing a helmet.

The accident was reported around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Gilbert was flown to a Lincoln hospital, where she was pronounced dead early Saturday.

Authorities continue to investigate. Magee says based on a statement from a witness, alcohol may be a factor in the crash.
