Merging cities issue revisited

Merging cities issue revisited

Posted: Updated:

The issue of merging Scottsbluff, Gering, and Terrytown was revisited this week at the Gering city council meeting.

Discussion at the council meeting once again turned to the topic of a merger after Gering businesman, Jim Raymond, suggested that it might be something worth looking into.

Raymond also suggested that the council appoint a study committee to research the pros and cons of a merge to see if it would be beneficial to the three cities.

Although Raymond didn't feel the Gering council was quite ready to appoint a committee they did inform him that Scottsbluff and Gering officials have met on the possiblity of merging the two police departments.

One reason that many people support the merger is so the city will have one total population which could possibly attract more companies.
