Despite a lagging economy, livestock buyers at the Sheridan County fair in Gordon came through for the kids generating over $100,000 at the livestock sale last night.
Scott Lindsey, first Vice President of the Sheridan County Fair said that market steers and heifers brought from 1.20 to 2.25 and kept the bids going well into the evening.
A variety of farm animals, including sheep, goats and pigs were on the auction block and although the final total is not yet tallied up, Lindsey says it was a good sale.
But the sale is not all the fair will offer this week.
Festivities continue tonight with the beginning of the rodeo.
"We've got mini-twister bull riding for the kids. They're age appropriate 11 to 14, 125 pounds and under. We're going to have a junior wild horse race," said Lindsey. "We've got over 400 contestants with some of the best names in rodeo from Western Gering on down."
The fair in Gordon continues into the weekend with a big parade Saturday morning and the Rhett Akins and Andy Griggs concert Saturday night.
