AUBURN, Neb. (AP) - Southeast Nebraska authorities say a native of Laos with a history of fleeing from and assaulting police is behind bars, accused of trying to run down a sheriff's deputy.
Officials say Vieng Bouaphakeo fled Saturday when police in Tecumseh tried to stop his sport utility vehicle - later determined to have been stolen in Houston.
Authorities say the chase lasted more than an hour and reached speeds of more than 110 mph.
Officials say Bouaphakeo at one point tried to run down Nemaha County Chief Sheriff's Deputy Kris Baker. Baker fired a shot at the SUV, hitting its windshield.
Bouaphakeo eventually crashed in Auburn and was arrested.
Authorities say Bouaphakeo has a history of felony arrests and convictions.
