Swine flu cases confirmed at Nebraska school

Posted: Updated:

The principal of one Nebraska school says 13 cases of swine flu have been confirmed among hundreds of students who have called in sick in recent days.

Pius X High School Principal, Tom Korta, sent an email to parents saying 20% of the Lincoln school's students were absent Wednesday and that 13 cases of the H1N1 virus had been confirmed.

Despite the outbreak, Korta says he has no plans to close the school or cancel activities because he believes they have a responsibility to the other students who are healthy and ready to learn.

Tim Timmons with the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department says he expects the number of absences at Pius to begin falling soon as the virus runs its course.

State officials have reported three swine-flu deaths in Nebraska.
