Cheyenne County residents are getting the chance to get rid of their scrap tires while reducing the number of mosquitoes in the area.
During the annual Scrap Tire Collection this week 300 tons of tires will be gathered from Cheyenne County residents free of charge.
The event will run through Saturday at the Sidney Landfill.
Abondoned tires are breeding zones for mosquitoes, so recycling the tires could possibly reduce the number of the pesky bugs in the county.
The landfill will take any tire without a rim.
The Cheyenne County Chamber received a $34,000 grant from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality to pay for the tires to be recycled.
