DAVEY, Neb. (AP) - Authorities say a 24-year-old man killed in a one-vehicle crash near Davey this week may have died while trying to stop his friend from driving drunk.

James Hornung died early Saturday. The Lancaster County sheriff's office says Hornung had stepped onto a metal strip outside the passenger-side door of 24-year-old Kyle Socha's sport utility vehicle.

Investigators believe Hornung was trying to either take the vehicle's keys or put the vehicle in park. Instead, he was crushed between two vehicles when the SUV plowed about 100 feet through a yard, hitting two trees and a parked car.

Authorities say Socha, who was injured in the crash, will be ticketed. Investigators are awaiting blood test results to determine whether Socha was drunk at the time of the crash.
