Neb. prosecutor: Suspect died of natural causes

BAYARD, Neb. (AP) - The Morrill County attorney says natural causes killed a 31-year-old Bayard man who died after being arrested.

County Attorney Jean Rhodes said Tuesday that the doctor who performed an autopsy on the body of Daniel Driscoll says Driscoll died of a myocardial infarction - a heart attack. Rhodes would not say whether Driscoll had any illegal drugs in his system.

Shortly after being arrested Aug. 18 in Bayard on suspicion of disturbing the peace, Driscoll showed signs of a medical problem.

Authorities say Driscoll was taken to a Scottsbluff hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A grand jury will meet on Oct. 1 to look into Driscoll's death. Under state law, a grand jury must investigate whenever a person dies in custody or while being apprehended.
