Police consolidation

Police consolidation

Posted: Updated:

Efforts are underway in Dawes County to consolidate and share criminal files, warrants and other law enforcement information.

The Chadron and Crawford police and the Dawes County Sheriffs Office all input criminal, civil and report information into a program called "Sleuth."

It is essentially a database that holds this information for each agency, and they are now working on consolidating and sharing the information.

Currently, most names do not have a date of birth, so if two people share the same name, there could be confusion when looking at records.

"We are trying to get our system updated and correct. We do have issues as with any department is going to have issues with multiple master name file entriesk," says Chadron Police Chief Tim Lordino. "And we're in the process of going back and cleaning those up, but that will take us time to do that."

The "Sleuth" program is set up like a pyramid- local entities like the Crawford Police have their file and that information feeds into "Global Sleuth" which is shared by the other cooperating agencies.

The upper-most branch is called NCJIS, which has all of Nebraska's criminal records.

Sheriff Karl Dailey is meeting with Chief Lordino this week to discuss how the information should be fed into the system.
