Some area power companies are complaining that they are paying too much for eleftricity and they are going to court to get those bills down.
A Colorado-based power cooperative is being sued by five western Nebraska power providers, accusing the co-op of overcharging its nebraska members for electricity.
The Nebraska utilities include Roosevelt Public Power from Mitchell, Panhandle Rural Electric Commission from Alliance, and Chimney Rock Power in Bayard.
These companies, along with utilities from Hay Springs and Grant filed their lawsuit Monday in U.S. District Court in North Platte.
The providers also say that Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association is holding the Nebraska Members Captive by demanding they pay $220 million to buy out their Tri-State contracts.
They ask the court to find that Tri-State breached its contracts with the utilities, and are seeking unspecified damages and all court and attorneys' fees.
