OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A Nebraska man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for assaulting a federal officer and his girlfriend.
A news release from Nebraska U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg says Edward Lovejoy of Macy was sentenced on Thursday.
Prosecutors say the 25-year-old Lovejoy got into a physical argument with his girlfriend on April 15, and he choked his girlfriend and struck her several times. She sustained three broken ribs and a number of bruises.
When an Omaha Nation Law Enforcement officer arrived, Lovejoy refused to surrender and fought with the officer. Prosecutors say Lovejoy grabbed the officer's gun at one point and used it to shoot the police cruiser and to threaten the officer.
Lovejoy eventually surrendered.
