HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) - Hastings resident Lisa Willett has collected fossils since she was 5.

She says during family vacations, her father would stop at every creek to look for bones and it just stuck with her.

Today, Willett has a collection of hundreds of fossils she's found along the banks of the Harlan County Reservoir. Most of the pieces are of the mosasaur, a prehistoric sea creature that once swam the inland sea that covered the Midwest.

For years, Willett has kept the fossils in boxes in her basement.

Recently, she shared her collection with a paleoartist and staffers from the Hastings Museum of Natural and Cultural History. The museum soon will be home to a mosasaur sculpture, sculpted by Hastings College alum Gary Staab.
