David City, Neb., recall group vows to appeal

DAVID CITY, Neb. (AP) - The leader of a group trying to recall David City Mayor Dana Trowbridge says the group will appeal a judge's decision to throw out four recall petitions.

The ruling last week by Judge Mary Gilbride of Butler County District Court took the signature total down to 340, which is 22 short of the 362 needed to force a recall election.

The county clerk had verified 388 of the 443 signatures turned in.

In the lawsuit by Trowbridge challenging the work of recall organizer Steve Gaston and the county clerk, the judge cited improper procedures by 3 of the petition circulators.

Gaston said Tuesday that the group will appeal Gilbride's ruling and denied that the circulators violated state rules.
