One panhandle teacher has recived a STAR award from the Nebraska Department of Education.
Scottsbluff High School spanish teacher Patricia Sulu is one of 19 Nebraska world language teachers to receive a STAR award.
Sulu is the only panhandle teacher to receive the award that is given to teachers who go above and beyond in the classroom but she says that she's not the only great teacher in the panhandle.
Sulu said, "In Scottsbluff High School we have lots of good teachers, over in Gering there's great teachers, so I'm very happy that I got the honor but I know our foreign language teachers are doing just as good, doing great things".
The four letters in STAR stand for Study, Travel, Achievement, and Recognition four areas that the star teachers strive to excel in.
One reason that Sulu received the award is because she took a group of students to Costa Rica last summer to study spanish.
The STAR awards were presented at the Nebraska International Languages Association Fall Conference awards luncheon held at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on October 10th.
