Nebraska's Attorney General stopped by the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center today for his first visit to the facility since it was completed.
Jon Bruning arrived in Gering this afternoon to visit the detention center and hopefully learn something from the operation.
Bruning was present during construction of the facility, but had not yet seen the final product.
He said he was pleased to see that the state of the art facility, which houses over one hundred eighty inmates, was running smoothly.
"It's very clean, its very well run, i think the fact that they're emphasizing programs for the inmates. Because what the public needs to understand is these inmates are going to be out on the streets, these are people that aren't going to stay in jail for life, so they have to be taught basic life skills."
The detention center serves as a rehabilitation center as well, with many programs including work release.
One concept that Bruning would like to see incorportated at the facility is video arraignments, where inmates can tele-conference with judges across the Panhandle while remaining at the detention center.
The Scotts Bluff County Detention Center is the states first detention facility to have housing for both juvenile and adult inmates.
Attorney general bruning also met with County Attorney Tiffany Wasserberger to congratulate her on her new position, and also attending a fundraising lunch for the next election.
