The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Department has welcomed a new deputy to their crew thanks to donations from the community.
Apachee, a 23 month old German Shepard, is the newest addition to the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Department.
With around $7,000 of community donations the department was able to replace their now retired dog, Bodo.
After spending five years with Bodo, handler Jason Perkins had a lot of work to do when he first began working with Apachee three months ago.
Perkins says, "I'm always going for the above average goal for my dog so it just takes time and training and everything is coming along very well right now".
Apachee will do patrol work as well as assisting area law enforcement with narcotics cases.
Sheriff Jim Lawson said, "Apache will be able to put his nose to work so to speak and be able to find things that officers will not be able to find, that's just an added element in our arsenal against the war on drugs".
Perkins says once he feels Apachee is ready he plans to enter competitions to test his skills.
