Governor Dave Heineman was in the Panhandle Monday to honor veterans.
His day started off at Chadron State College, where he was the keynote speaker at a veterans awareness conference.
The governor commended the accomplishments of the Nebraska National Guard stating that the role of our National Guard is more expansive than ever before.
In the afternoon the Western Nebraska Veterans Home got a visit from the governor, who took a tour of the facility and was pleased to see how operations are proceeding.
“They care about their members. They service them with dedication and commitment. That's pretty obvious and the members enjoy it. I talked to a number of members, they appreciate the service they receive and that's important because we want to take care of their needs– they certainly have done their part for our country.”
Heineman also said that Veterans Day is a time to honor the men and women who have served their country to defend our freedoms.
