WISNER, Neb. (AP) - Wisner has changed its collective mind about adding fluoride to its water system: It won't.
The results from a mail-in election were 98 for the idea, 285 against.
In 2008, 265 voters said yes, 242 said no. Some town residents called the ballot language confusing, so officials decided to hold another election.
A bill passed by the Legislature last year required Nebraska towns of more than 1,000 residents to add fluoride unless they voted to opt out.
So the question was put to Wisner voters in the election that ended Tuesday: Should Wisner opt out?
Voting yes was to say Wisner should not add fluoride; voting no meant Wisner should not opt out and therefore should add fluoride.
