Nebraska City police: Mom left toddler home alone

Associated Press - November 12, 2009 12:35 PM ET

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (AP) - A 27-year-old Nebraska City woman has been charged with felony child abuse and three counts of drug possession, accused of leaving her 18-month-old child home alone.

Amy Severe remained in custody Thursday after being arrested Monday evening. Her two children are in state custody.

Police were called to Severe's home by her landlord, who had stopped by to collect rent. The landlord told officers that only the toddler was there, alone.

Severe was arrested after she returned.

It was unclear how long the toddler was there alone or whether Severe's other child also was there. Calls by The Associated Press to representatives for the police and prosecutors were not immediately returned Thursday.
