Stolen grain cart found at Mo. equipment auction

Associated Press - November 16, 2009 11:05 AM ET

COLUMBUS, Neb. (AP) - A 47-year-old Clarkson man is in custody, accused of stealing a grain cart sitting in an east-central Nebraska pasture and trying to sell it at an auction 350 miles away.

Platte County Sheriff's Deputy Tom Brandl said Monday that Brian Grotelueschen (GROTE-loo-shin) was arrested over the weekend in northeast Missouri and was to return to Nebraska to face a theft charge.

Monroe-area farmer Mark Jenny owns the cart, which is valued at $21,000. The cart was for sale and on display last week at the junction of 2 highways.

Brandl says Grotelueschen is suspected of transporting the cart to a machinery dealer in Memphis, Mo. An employee there become suspicious about a cart in such good condition being taken from Nebraska to Missouri to be sold.
