Sidney resident is awarded for connecting Nebraskans

A Sidney resident has been rewarded for her work toward connecting Nebraskans.

The Partnership for Rural Nebraskans and the Western Nebraska Development Network have named Amy Jay of Sidney as the Western Nebraska Connecting Nebraskans award recipient.

Amy has dedicated her leadership skills to the High Plains Compass project as well as serving on the Cheyenne County Vision 2020 board.

Jay says it's been a long road in her quest to make the High Plains Compass web site a reality, but she believes the area communities are turning around.

Jay said, "It's been a lot of work, from rallying support, people telling me that this isn't worth while that it'll never happen, there's been a lot of rivalry between communities in the past and it seems like now we're starting to break down some of those walls, people are realizing that we need to start working together to get things done, we can accomplish more when we work together and that is a great thing".

In the process of creating the High Plains website Jay conducted research, wrote grants, oversaw the creation of the website, as well as many other things.

High Plains Compass Director, Amanda Glenn said, "Amy is so enthusiastic about everything that I do and that she does and everything that we do for the High Plains Compass too, so it's really nice to have somebody that's so happy all the time and so enthusiastic about what she does".

The High Plains Compass website was created to provide one location to find information about communities in the region.
