GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) - Grand Island's Stuhr Museum beat two other Nebraska landmarks in an online competition for volunteers.
The museum garnered the most online votes in the "Save-A-Landmark" program, which ran the month of November. Other possible selections were Alliance's Carhenge and the Strategic Air and Space Museum in Ashland.
Hampton Hotels is behind the effort, which will bring volunteers to the museum next summer to complete a preservation project.
Since launching in 2000, the program has provided thousands of hours and more than $$2 million toward the research and preservation of roadside landmarks.
