Several agencies are putting out the S.O.S for potential disaster volunteers for the Panhandle.
The Panhandle is beginning to put together a list of potential disaster volunteers for the area in case of a large natural or man–made disaster.
Although there is a group of highly trained individuals who have been prepared, there is now a need for people who can assist with less training.
Scotts Bluff County Health Director Bill Wineman says that although there is a plan for these emergencies, that is not enough to fully help.
"All of our communities, all of our counties, all of our states have plans to deal with almost any type of foreseeable situation, but if the event is large enough, we find that there is not enough people," said Wineman.
Even though there are already hundreds of volunteers already, the United Way of Western Nebraska, Red Cross, Emergency Management, the Scotts Bluff County Health Department and Panhandle Public Health Department are holding a question and answer session next week.
Anyone interested in finding out more information about volunteering is highly encouraged to attend.
The meeting will take place on Monday, January 11th at 6 PM in the Scottsbluff Room at Regional West Medical Center.
No experience or special skills are needed in order to volunteer.
