Long time Scottsbluff detective, Mark Overman has made it official; he is throwing his hat into the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's race.
Filing as a Republican, Overman said this was a decision he has considered for many months.
Overman started as a police officer with the Scottsbluff Police Department in 1979, rose to the rank of detective in 1985 and was one of the original investigators appointed to the Western Nebraska Intelligence and Narcotics or WING drug task force.
So far, since his announcement, Overman says he is very pleased.
"I'm greatly encouraged by the response I've received so far... It's been very, very positive and it is exciting. Political races always are exciting."
The Scotts Bluff County Sheriffs position is currently held by incumbent Sheriff Jim Lawson.
