Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska is collecting food for local residents in need as part of a new food drive campaign.
CAPWN is holding the "Heart for the Heartland" food drive beginning today in order to help with the outstanding call for help.
CAPWN says that because of the economy, there has been a 21 percent increase in families asking for food assistance.
And now they are asking for the community to step up and help the less fortunate put food on their tables.
"We've gone to offering a little bit more help than we're used to because of the need and therefore if we're offering more help we're of course naturally going to need more food in order to make that happen."
Drop boxes for the "Heart for the Heartland" food drive will be located in Plaza Foods, Family Thrift Center and Safeway in Scottsbluff from now through Monday, February 15th.
Although food donations are encouraged, CAPWN says that monetary donations will also be accepted at the CAPWN offices.
