FREMONT, Neb. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts says Nebraska Republicans can't coast until November, despite indications they should have an easy go of it at the polls. Brown, a Republican, says at the Nebraska GOP state convention in Fremont that "it's not over 'til it's over."
FREMONT, Neb. (AP) - Republican Gov. Dave Heineman took several swipes at his Democratic challenger today during the governor's address at the Nebraska GOP state convention in Fremont. Heineman says state Democrats "recruited a trial lawyer" in picking Mike Meister after former nominee Mark Lakers withdrew from the race in early July amid questions about the accuracy of his campaign finance reports.
FREMONT, Neb. (AP) - A Nebraska state lawmaker from Fremont says he's "saddened and upset" that the city's ban on hiring and renting to illegal immigrants has been suspended. State Sen. Charlie Janssen says that while the delay is frustrating for ordinance supporters, it was necessary so that authorities can be certain the ban is legally enforceable and implement it properly.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Residents in the Omaha area are being warned of possible Missouri River flooding. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the river is expected to rise to 28.5 feet this weekend, which could cause lowland flooding in parks and campgrounds. Flood stage is 29 feet.
