Rural firefighters have busy Wednesday night

Posted: Updated:

A controlled burn goes out of control in rural Scottsbluff.

At 8:48 p.m., the Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department responded to a fire on Hardin Road.

What started out as just a controlled burn spread to two structures. Fire companies from Gering, Minatare, Mitchell, Morrill and Lyman came to assist with grass rigs and tankers.

A total of 45 firefighters battled the fire for about three hours.

Assistant Fire Chief Paul Reisig says that the area is about an inch behind on precipitation for the month of August, and fires are going to spread easier with that added dryness.

State Fire Inspector Mike Turner is at the scene Thursday morning. Early damage estimates are estimated between 10 and 15 thousand dollars.
