Hemingford residents concerned about utility future

Posted: Updated:

People living in Hemingford express concern over the possibility of a major change to their utilities.

The village has lost two of the three employees at the Utilities Department. Those employees had a combined 58 years of experience.

Hemingford is advertising to fill those positions to keep the utilities owned and operated by the city.

City leaders say keeping it local ensures low rates and quality services for years to come.

If they are forced to contract with an outside company, people in Hemingford may pay higher rates, pay higher taxes, and lose funds for community activities.
