A KOTA Territory school district that tested near the bottom of the barrel just a few years ago has skyrocketed above state averages.
Only a few years ago Hay Springs Public Schools was placed on the Nebraska's "Persistently Low-Achieving School" list.
But the most recent "State of the School" report shows student test scores have surpassed scores from the average student in Nebraska.
Superintendent Steve Pummel says recent math scores have been especially strong, and can be attributed to sticking to a math curriculum that has been in place for years.
"It's that consistency over and over again that makes a difference. Many districts change every couple of years and you can't develop that consistency if you don't stay within that same series."
Pummel says math scores have improved for the past three years, a trend he hopes will continue for years to come.
