High school students get a rare opportunity to study alternative energy.
This spring, the a state of the art wind turbine was installed at Crawford High School. But it wasn't until this semester that students began to monitor wind patterns through a computer in the classroom.
Superintendent Dick Lesher says the hands - on technology should generate interest for students, and some may even end up pursuing careers in alternative energy.
The local power district has also cranked up the curriculum by giving students more to study.
"We have a portable solar trailer from NRPPD that we're also using to asses electricity and how it is put into our system," explains Superintendent Lesher. "So those two things are very exciting for us right now."
Lesher says the school district will continue to develop and enhance alternative energy courses after this year.
