WNCC gives back to surrounding communities

Posted: Updated:

Western Nebraska Community College – Sidney Campus is "giving back" to its surrounding communities by donating blankets to panhandle living centers and nursing homes. Yesterday, WNCC donated blankets to Garden County Health Services/Long Term Care (Oshkosh), Golden Living Center (Sidney), Heritage of Bridgeport (Bridgeport), Kimball County Manor (Kimball), and Miller Memorial Care Center (Chappell).

WNCC will donate a blanket to Memorial Health Center-Extended Care (Sidney), Riverview Assisted Living (Lewellen), and Sloan Estates (Sidney) in early January.

WNCC's Sidney Campus recently purchased a variety of wilderness themed fleece and students graciously volunteered their time and energy to measure, cut, and tie the fleece pieces together to create what is commonly called a "no-sew throw."

"This is a very rewarding project," said Paula Abbott, WNCC Sidney Campus director.

Sidney Campus staff including Paula Abbott, Linda Roelle, Merrillene Wood, and Erin Huddleston visited several of the nursing homes and living centers yesterday and donated one blanket to each location. The blankets can be shared among the residents or used wherever they are needed most.

"This is a great way to connect with other individuals, but to also show that WNCC as a whole wants to be involved in the communities that surround the campuses," said Erin Huddleston, WNCC admissions counselor.
