A Panhandle theater wins a big award, thanks in part to community members.
The Scottsbluff Midwest Theatre received the Governor's Arts Award last week for organizational achievement.
The theatre received official confirmation of the award earlier this month, after being nominated by the Nebraska Arts Council last fall.
Nomination for the award is based on a combination of programming efforts and community support.
Theater manager Billy Estes says the outpouring of support played a large part in the theater's success.
"We wouldn't be here without the community, so I really think it's a feather in the hat for Scottsbluff that the state has recognized the theater as an important piece of the arts community in Nebraska," Estes said.
The theater will receive the award at a Lincoln gala on April 2nd.
