The Legislature's Education Committee is studying a bill that would mandate students to recite the pledge of allegiance every day.
The bills author, Senator Tony Fulton, says students have lost their sense of patriotism.
But students at Scottsbluff High School disagree. Each morning they rise and recite the pledge because *they* say it's the right thing to do.
"It does promote patriotism," explains Morgan Yost, "And I just think it's been around for many years, so we should just continue doing that."
"Personally, I think it's important and I think they should stand," adds Student Senate President Maddie Holschar. "But on the same sense, it is their first amendment right I think, that they don't have to stand. But personally I think it's important.
Opponents of the bill say mandating students to recite the pledge won't necessarily increase their patriotism.
