UNL holds animal welfare workshop in Gering

Posted: Updated:

Panhandle ranchers and farmers receive first hand lessons on animal welfare in a day-long workshop.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln held their animal welfare and current industry issues educational program today.

The workshop covers a variety of topics including animal welfare, livestock care and industry evaluations.

Several key note speakers from statewide universities were on hand to present information.

"Often times our producers are really busy doing the day to day work of raising animals so that the rest of us have the luxury of having food readily available that they aren't aware that people are regulating their practices and that this has major implications," Associate Professor at Purdue University Candace Croney said.

Croney says the most important thing about the cattle industry is how producers educate the public on where their food comes from.
