Northwest Nebraska is welcoming some "sheepish" characters to the region.
Nebraska authorities say 40 bighorn sheep captured in Canada were released in Northwest Nebraska Tuesday, swelling the states small numbers.
The five rams and 35 ewes were captured by drop nets in the rockies west of Edmonton.
Bighorn sheep are native to Nebraska but were killed off in the early 1900's by loss of habitat, disease and unregulated hunting.
Nebraska began reintroducing the sheep in 1981.
The bighorn population in Nebraska now totals about 315.
