Nebraska lawmakers could get the opportunity to serve an extra four years in office.
The state legislature's executive board voted 6-3 today to allow a term limit measure to be discussed by the entire legislature.
If the lawmakers approve changing the term limit from two, four year terms, to three, four year terms, it would require an amendment to the state's constitution.
Lawmakers have discussed the subject several times this session and supporters of the amendment say it will help the state in the long run, but opponents say they are unsure if this is the right time to change term limits.
If the legislature approves the amendment, Nebraska voters will get the final say in November whether to increase the limits or not.
