A Democratic candidate has made his bid for the US senate official.
University of Nebraska Regent Chuck Hassebrook filed paperwork early this morning announcing his run in the US senate race.
The Democratic candidate will be seeking the senate seat currently held by Ben Nelson.
Hassebrook is the first Democratic candidate to file for election since Nelson announced in late December he would not be seeking a third term.
Hassebrook is currently slated to campaign against three Republican candidates.
The filing deadline for current officeholders to declare candidacy is Wednesday.
