The Gering Parks Department will soon be the new owners of a much needed maintenance building.
The Gering City Council has approved the purchase of the North Platte Valley Museum building.
This news comes about a month after the North Platte Valley Museum and the Farm and Ranch museum finalized their plans to merge.
The collaboration committee is still working on the estimated cost for the move but they know that the construction of the new building at the Farm and Ranch site will cost at least $800,000.
Executive Director at North Platte Valley Museum, Katie Bradshaw says that they have about half a million pulled together with the sale of the building and the $240,000 grant from the Scotts Bluff County Tourism Committee.
Bradshaw also says they're excited to be moving on to the next step.
"We're glad to have this step taken care of." Bradshaw says, "Some people saw it as a formality but you can never leave these things...you can't take these things for granted. So we're really glad that the city has approved that step"
The collaboration committee also hopes to launch a website to keep members and the public updated on their progress.
