The filing period for incumbent office holders ended today, but there's still time left for hopeful challengers.
Today marked the last day for Nebraska incumbents to run for re -election or seek a new elected office.
Incumbents had until 5 PM to file the paperwork, but people looking to hold office for the first time have until march 1st to file.
County Clerk Vera Delaney says it's not uncommon for non-incumbents to file for office close to the deadline.
"People do tend to wait to see who else is going to file, especially if the incumbent is filing," Delaney said. "They will wait until their final segment which is fine with us are we are happy to help."
Delaney says people running for village candidate or for the village board of trustees have until July to file.
