Local non-profit organizations receive financial boost

Posted: Updated:

Several local non-profit organizations get a cash boost for community improvements.

The Oregon Trail Community Foundation was recently awarded a $22,000 grant to distribute among local non-profit organizations.

The funds come from the Peter Kiewit Foundation and are meant to help organizations assist in community needs.

Grants were given to 12 non-profit groups in Scotts Bluff County.

President of OTCF Travis Hiner says the county has a long standing relationship with the Kiewit foundation.

"They know us well and so they trust us and were proud to be their partner in this thing," Hiner said.

Michael Stein with non-profit organization Monument Family Connections says he appreciates how the money is distributed.

"There's not this king organization with all the funds that it needs, it's a patchwork quilt of organizations," Stein said.

Grants from the Kiewit foundation were also given to 16 additional counties throughout Nebraska.
