City receives funding for new community trail

Posted: Updated:

The city of Scottsbluff is putting federal funding toward a new county trail.

The Nebraska Department of Roads Transportation Enhancement Program has announced the city of Scottsbluff will receive funding for the trail.

The trail is expected to begin in Riverside Park and will link the Monument Valley Pathway to Northwood Park.

The Enhancement Act will cover 80 percent of the total cost which is estimated at 1.6 million dollars.

Parks and recreation director Perry Mader says the new trail will promote healthy living.

"It encourages people to leave the car at home and to get out and exercise and be able to get from one point to another without the use of their car or truck," Mader said.

Mader says this trail is just the first part of a phased project that could eventually link all county communities.
