A paid, full-time job in Kota Territory has been changed to a volunteer position.
The Ogallala city council has voted to get rid of the paid Fire Chief position.
Future Fire Chief's will be volunteers only and will have to be elected by the fire department.
Councilman Pete Peterson says that the salary for the position was included in last year's budget but funds do not allow for it this year.
Eliminating this position has been a topic of discussion for the council for several years.
No word if current Fire Chief, Greg Stofer will try to stay in the position.
