A Nebraska food program does not want students to go hungry, even when school is out.
The Department of Education, Nutrition Services is looking for sponsors to run the summer food service program.
The program provides healthy meals and snacks to children 18 years or younger in low income areas during summer or long breaks.
The food is distributed in common areas like parks, schools or churches.
Food Bank for the Heartland's website reports that 20% of children in Nebraska and western Iowa are at risk for hunger.
