Hard water solutions

Posted: Updated:

Hard water is becoming an increasing problem in Western Nebraska and treating it, is getting easier.

The Panhandle's problem with hard water is not going away any time soon so businesses and residents have to soften their water.

Water is classified as hard when it is about 750 parts per million...minerals.

Water in the Panhandle has a lot of calcium and magnesium that clog up the pluming systems.

Water experts say that water softening is one effective treatment for hard water.

Water softening works by using a sodium ion exchange process, which reduces the minerals in your water.

Ron Huber, owner at Culligan says, "It creates many problems with in your plumbing systems. When it comes to running dish washers, running water through our faucets with in the home...our boilers...things of that sort."

Water filtration systems in your home can also help reduce the mineral content in your drinking water.
