A new study shows Nebraska farm are getting bigger but fewer.
A report by the US Department of Agriculture shows the number of Nebraska farms dropped by 400 to 46,800 in 2011.
The survey indicated farms with less than $100,000 in agricultural sales declined by 800.
But operations with more than $100,000 in sales increased by 400.
Higher commodity prices indicate the drop in small farms is due to existing farms moving into higher sales categories.
Retirements and young people in Nebraska seeking non-farming futures have contributed to the shrinking numbers.
