A Nebraska lawmaker says there's still a lot of work that needs to be done in the second half of this year's legislative session.
Scottsbluff Senator John Harms says tackling ongoing issues with the Department of Health and Human Services remains a top priority for lawmakers.
But at the halfway point of the state's 60 - day legislative session, there has been little debate on making changes.
Harms says legislative bills aimed at increasing accountability in child welfare cases that seem to "fall through the cracks" will soon be debated.
"You'll see a lot of activity in Health and Human Services, and those well, I'm quite sure, with the Speaker when he builds the schedule will be a priority focus. There must be for the health and human services will bring jour major bills in."
Harms says the department has become so big recently ... That it's tough to focus on the important things.
