Judge repeals portion of immigration ordinance

Posted: Updated:

A federal judge rules to repeal part of a controversial city immigration law.

US district court judge Lisa Smith Camp rejected part of Fremont's 2010 immigration rule which denied housing permits to illegal immigrants.

The court ruled the act discriminatory and interfered with federal law.

Around 75 percent of the ordinance was upheld and much of the rule will still take effect next month.

The city can still require anyone looking to rent property to apply for a $5 city permit to check their citizenship status.
