NSP warns drivers to use caution on slick roads

Posted: Updated:

Police say slick road conditions were the cause of many accidents in the panhandle yesterday.

The Nebraska State Patrol reports troopers from Troop "E" responded to six accidents yesterday.

Early morning snow and near freezing temperatures made panhandle highway driving conditions more dangerous than usual.

Lieutenant Jamey Balthazor says no serious injuries were reported as a result of the accidents, but drivers should still use caution when driving in winter weather.

"Biggest piece of advice we can give you is slow down, slow down, slow down," explains Balthazor. "You have got to use care when you're driving in real inclement weather conditions. Hopefully spring is on its way and we'll be out of this winter driving weather shortly."

Balthazor says by driving slower, and using seatbelts, the chances of receiving injuries in an accident decrease astronomically.
