Law enforcement gets ready for polar plunge

Posted: Updated:

A local organization is freezin for a reason, hoping to raise money for the Nebraska Special Olympics.

The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's department is hosting their first annual polar plunge.

The plunge is scheduled for Saturday at Riverside park in Scottsbluff. All the proceeds will benefit the Nebraska Special Olympics.

Plungers can plunge individually or create teams and are encouraged to raise money by collecting pledges.

Registration is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on the 25th and the plunging starts around 11.

Sheriff Overmans says, "You go and you jump in icy cold water in the winter, to show your support and raise money and get people to donate to you and I think the fact that you're willing to go and do that...ya I'll pay to see you jump in some cold water."

To sign up for the plunge or learn more information about the event visit the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's department website at: www.scottsbluffcounty.org
