The Cities of Scottsbluff and Gering get a small settlement after loaning a now defunct airline $130,000 in LB840 funds back in 2005.
Last night the Scottsbluff City Council accepted a $15,000 settlement offer from the operators of Westward Airways.
The Gering City Council accepted the offer during *their* last council meeting.
The two cities will share a 60/40 split of the settlement.
Scottsbluff City Manager Rick Kuckkahn says both cities took a financial hit but it's fortunate they were able to recoup *some * of the money.
"I think the bottom line here is that the LB840 fund is something we protect very carefully. We're not going to let anybody get by with getting money from this fund and then just close down without some sort of fight. And really that's what it was- we fought to get this money back.".
Kuckkahn said that trying to recoup all the money would require going to trial... And ultimately would have cost more in legal fees.
